據英國媒體《鏡報》（Mirror）報道，世界上第一條短信在其誕生近30年后，將以高達17萬英鎊（約合人民幣143萬元）的價格出售，再次創造歷史。

The worlds first ever text message is set to make history again as it is expected to fetch ￡170,000 nearly 30 years later.

這條短信在1992年發出，只有15個字母：MERRY CHRISTMAS（圣誕快樂）。

發送者是英國電訊商沃達豐軟件工程師帕普沃思，當時，他在沃達豐的圣誕派對上，向公司高層發出了“Merry Christmas”(圣誕快樂)的短信。由于當時的手機沒有短信功能，他是用電腦發出這條短信的。

不過，第一條短信的發送成功并不代表這項功能被普及使用。由于當時的硬件和網絡上的限制（發送短信需要基于 GSM 網絡，而在 1992 年 GSM 網絡尚未完全成熟），短信真正普及到商用、民用是在數年以后了。

目前，該短信的“主人”英國沃達豐公司表示，將面向全球拍賣這條短信的虛擬副本，中標者將收到一個包含發件人和收件人信無紡布廠家15838056980息的數字文件，其中包括他們的電話號碼和消息本身，并將擁有對該文件的專有權。

Vodafone is now selling a virtual replica of the text that is available to buy in cryptocurrency in a world first auction.

The winning bidder will receive a digital file containing information on the sender and the recipient such as their phone number and the message itself and will own the exclusive rights to it.

據悉，這次拍賣將于12月21日在巴黎舉行，所得收益將捐贈給聯合國難民署。

The proceeds from the online sale will be donated to the United Nations Refugee Agency.

沃達豐的首席執行官漢尼斯·阿梅斯雷特 (Hannes Ametsreiter) 表示：“我們永遠銘記世界上首條短信并將其進行拍賣，以此聯結兩個時代的創新精神。”

阿梅斯雷特認為，這條短信的誕生對于加速短信普及具有重要意義。

大約30年前，世界上首條消息的發出是技術史上的決定性時刻。
